Tourist boat to cruise outback Cooper Creek

A boat will take tourists along part of Cooper Creek in the outback to see the original grave sites of explorers Burke and Wills.

A boat will take tourists along part of Cooper Creek in the outback to see the original grave sites of explorers Burke and Wills.

The Innamincka Hotel will use a punt for the tourist cruises.

Hotel operator Jo Fort said many travellers had expressed a keen interest in Australian history.

"We're trying to keep the Burke and Wills story alive and with that tell other stories in the area and recognise the traditional owners and the beauty of the Cooper Creek," she said.

"We saw a gap in the market, that was one reason. The other reason is we're proud of what we have at Innamincka and the natural beauty of the Cooper and we saw it as a way of maybe offering a little bit more to our visitors."
