How To Prevent Dengue

altThere are some things in life that you wish would never happen to you and dengue fever is one of them. The disease itself enters so seamlessly into a human’s immune system that by the time one gets cracking the code, the body comes crashing down.

No wonder the illness is also known as ‘break bone’ fever. So, here are a few tips on how you can prevent it.

1. Keep Your Surroundings Dry

When in danger of a dengue attack, it is highly recommended to keep your surroundings as dry as possible. This includes doing away with excess storage of water. The carrier mosquitoes generally make their colonies in stagnant water portions. Thus, extreme care should be taken to not leave any water stored anywhere in the house. One should also opt for a more open and sunny neighbourhood to ensure clean and hygienic living.

2. Cover All Items in the House

This process includes covering everything ranging from an open container of food to the ones that contain water. Carrier mosquitoes inhabit anything lying in the house, and open food is a sure-shot target!

3. Shield Yourself

How about some self-defence? You should begin with wearing full-sleeved shirts, trousers and wrapping a sheet around, while sleeping. Moreover, use a repellent cream and place liquidators at various points around the house, to prevent the mosquitoes from entering.

4. Screen the Doors

Use wire meshes or tight net to screen your main door. Do the same with the windows of the house too. In order to further prevent any hazard of dengue, use a mosquito net above your bed while sleeping.

5. Avoid Exposure

Avoid exposure to dengue carriers by not visiting places rich in vegetation or moisture like gardens, parks etc. Know the places around where you live that may be infested by these mosquitoes, and stay away from such places.

6. Clean Up

This is the most crucial of all the preventive measures and is normally a part of personal hygiene. Keeping the water coolers, tanks, and wash basins clean can help prevent the growth of mosquitoes. You can do such cleaning once a week to get rid of the mosquitoes.

7. Use of Chemical

Use of bleaching powder and DDT around the house and for the drainages may totally annihilate the carriers of dengue, leaving you secure and healthy.

It is not that tough attempting to prevent getting dengue. All you need to do is to incorporate these everyday routine acts to avoid a critical situation. It is in the best interest of you and your loved ones to be mindful against the dangers of dengue and practice the appropriate measures to stay safe.
