Aloe vera and its properties

Aloe vera is a short-stemmed plant that grows up to a height of 80-100 centimetres. Its leaves are thick and fleshy with a serrated margin. Often called a miracle plant, aloe’s healing properties have been known for centuries. Aloe vera is known to have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Despite some conflicting opinion, preliminary research shows that aloe extracts are useful in treating burns, ulcers and various skin infections.

Aloe Vera is about 95% water. The rest contains active ingredients including essential oil, amino acids, minerals, vitamins, enzymes and glycoproteins.

While fresh aloe from the plant is the best, there are numerous over-the-counter pills, creams and gels that promise the goodness of aloe

Unfortunately, the aloe industry is largely unregulated… So check the contents of the product thoroughly before purchase.
