MensXP's Guide to Buying The Perfect Suit

altThey say that a man’s wardrobe is incomplete without a suit and we couldn’t agree more. Suits for men go beyond the brands you choose. You must know the right style and the right manner

to carry them in a way that makes you distinguishable. And when it comes to choosing a suit, you have to go into the fine details to buy yourself the one that lets you induce the wow factor.

The Perfect Fit

If there is one rule to wearing a suit, it has to be about how fittingly it wraps around your body. Don’t let your suit appear like an overcoat. You may have bought yourself a Rs 50k suit, but the extra price tag won’t do a dime of good if it is not tailored to the contours of your body. The lapel widths, the fabric comes later, first get your basics right. At the top, the suit should be hugging your shoulders ever so closely. The sleeves don’t have to be loosely spread around your arms.

Make your Choice

If you are going for a casual look, the button-down collar would look the best. Talking of the button-down look, thanks to the ever-changing fashion trends, you can flaunt them with a formal look as well. Going for an unadorned look or flaunting a tie with polka dots is a choice to make. One choice that always gets you in a fix is whether to buy a suit jacket with two buttons, or three. We say, go for the two button suit. They would look good for just about any size or shape and they make your torso appear much better. Make sure you unfasten these buttons whenever you have to sit. Cuffs or no cuffs on the pants is another difficult choice to make. Well, cuffs help your pants fall better, and you can always customize the length of the pant if you have cuffs.

The Fabric

The thing that separates a classic suit from a passé one is the fabric. If we have to recommend one fabric, we’d say go for cashmere wool. Flannel would also look great on some - if not all - particularly when it is worn in gray. It is an idle choice for winters and so is tweed that lets you get rid of your overcoats.

Now that you have got yourself few perfect fits, with materials for all seasons, all you need is panache - and well, there are articles on that as well!
