So, Aishwarya Rai, the Bachchan Bahu, delivered a baby girl! Why on earth would I care about that? For that matter, why would anyone else?
Why would it be anybody's business to know the details about the birth of a baby that has absolutely no bearing on their life? And if you start accusing me of undue bias, its not just Aishwarya Rai's baby. I feel exactly the same about the Shilohs, Suris and Romeos. Aishwarya Rai's baby girl already has a lot thrust upon her because of her her so called family heritage. And, what heritage are we talking about here? Acting? Sure!
It is a known fact that Amitabh Bachchan is demi-god in India and that status was bestowed upon him by the media. Right from the beginning of his superstardom, the journey of the 'legendary' Amitabh Bachchan has been closely followed by the media throughout the years. Be it his numerous affairs, his accident, his comeback; everything has been discussed about till death. Therefore, it makes headlines when Senior Bachchan has a not-so-mighty fall or when Junior Bachchan hurts his 'little' finger.
Add to that Aishwarya Rai entered the 'Bachchan clan' which was even better for the media folks since it immediately translated to more fodder. I obviously had to be prepared for the worst when news of Aishwarya Rai's pregnancy came to light and of course the pregnancy was discussed for months. Doesn't almost every woman get pregnant at least once in her lifetime? Maybe Aishwarya Rai doesn't belong to the every woman group and was probably going to give birth to an alien instead.
The poor baby had only opened her eyes to the world and people had already started predicting her future apart from giving her weird names.
A joke on Twitter read, "They should name the baby, Phoenix. Since, she's rising from the Ash."
Apart from Amitabh Bachchan (and now Aishwarya Rai) there isn't anyone in the family that is hot property in Bollywood.
For the sceptics, Jaya Bachchan was a major actress of the seventies. We don't really bother if she appears in any other movies or not, do we?
Shweta Bachchan is neither a part of Bollywood nor has achieved anything so as to be pushed into the limelight.
Many might jump at the name Abhishek Bachchan but sadly, I don't think the same. Abhishek Bachchan survives till date simply because he is the by-product of the union of two of the most respected stars of the seventies. Most of his films have been miserable flops and had it been any other actor in question, he would've disappeared years ago. But the Bachchan surname has struck through for him.
Media channels and newspapers will continue to be splashed with talks about the Bachchans' 'legacy' and 'power', etc. But is the media solely to be blamed? After all its because of our own curiosity that the media gets away with the hype. Maybe its not that simple to decode whether it is the media or the public at fault. (Entertainment, MensXP.com)
