How to Push Yourself for Greatness

alt

“Great men are not born great, they grow great . . .”

― Mario Puzo, The Godfather

No one is born great; they become great because of their actions. All great people are remembered for what they’ve achieved: Gandhi, Martin Luther, Steve Jobs, Shakespeare, Picasso, Beethoven, Einstein and so many more.

What separates good and great? Why do some people achieve greatness, while others can only gawk in awe? You too can attain greatness. It could be in any field or domain of your liking. Here’s how:

Everything is doable

Don’t limit yourself. Ever. Don’t stop short of doing something because in your head you feel you can’t. You will never know until you try. As they say, you will not regret the things you did, you will regret the things you didn’t. So just jump right in and do it.

Think Godzilla, Think King Kong

Always aim higher than you think you can go. Crawl out of your shell. If you’ve been swimming on the shallow end all this while, go over to the deeper end. See how that feels. Don’t be afraid. Think big. Always.

Passion

It’s vital that you enjoy what you do. Don’t be afraid of failures or obstacles, just hold your head high and keep marching, like ants that never stop climbing that wall until they succeed, never mind the number of times they fall. Put a smile and keep working towards your goal. Be relentless. Keep doing your best. That’s all. Things will fall in place automatically.

Go that extra mile

Usually that’s the difference between people who just dream of greatness and those who actually achieve it. Going that extra mile is what separates dreams and realities. Always be willing to push yourself a bit more.

Your mind is your most powerful weapon

You have to train your mind to be focused. Visualize success, greatness. Visualize all that you yearn for and it will fructify itself.

Be fearless

Don’t be afraid to talk about your dreams. Walk around like a superstar. Do it over and over again until the lie becomes a reality. Work hard towards achieving that dream. Don’t listen to those trying to belittle you or to those telling you that your dream is silly.

Greatness means different things to different people. If for Sachin Tendulkar it means having a batting average of 100 when he retires, to you it might mean finishing writing a novel, or quitting a dead-end job, or traveling the world. You define what greatness means to you and once you have done that, go for it.
