Mhadei: Goa's Lifeline is also Tiger Terrain
The Mhadei wildlife sanctuary in Goa is a protected area under the Wildlife protection act of 1972. It has large cat movement and is a confirmed tiger habitat (by both the Wildlife Institute of India and State Forest Dept. census). When Jairam Ramesh was the MOEF, he sent an official letter to the state government proposing it as a tiger reserve. Until now, the state govt. has not accepted the proposal. If and when it does, the state cabinet has to intimate the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) for its acceptance Until then, it stands as a Proposed Tiger Reserve. If it happens, it will be Goa's first and only tiger reserve. A Goan shows you why preserving natural heritage begins by first recognising it.
