How to Ensure Efficiency When You’re Away From Work

How to Ensure Efficiency When You’re Away From Work Your employees are great; but only when you’re around. When you’re in the office,

they work hard and finish things on time. But when you’re not at work, you feel, they are not giving their hundred percent. Here’s how to ensure they do:

    Delegate work

Delegate work and be specific. Ask A to do a number of tasks and make his responsible for that. Ask B to do another set of tasks. Tell them to e-mail you the status by the end of the day, and call you (if you’re not busy) and update you telephonically as well. If they know exactly what’s expected of them by the end of the day, they will be more efficient and productive.

    Install Spyware

This could be seen as being slightly extreme, but if you’re starting to doubt your employees, this is the best way to keep a check, especially when you’re away. The spyware will help you know what your employees have been up to. Whether they have been wasting their time on the internet, or doing actual work. You will be able to track even the emails they have sent and received. The spyware will help you distinguish the efficient from the non-efficient.

    Don’t give out all information

If you’re going out for a meeting, don’t tell your staff as to when you’re going to be back at work. Just ask them to call you if they need to discuss something urgent. If you don’t give out all the information, it will keep them guessing. They will remain on their toes and continue to work, because they will expect you to show up any minute.

    Use Skype

If you’re going to be away from work for a week or more – say you’re on tour – make sure you have a skype meeting every evening at a pre-set time. If your staff knows that you are going to ask them for an update every evening at a certain time, they will ensure they have the answers.

    Training sessions

Plan for staff training sessions when you’re away from office. This way you can ensure they have no time to slack off. Identify the skills and competencies that are missing in your staff and hire experts to coach them in those areas. It could be a day-long or even week-long workshop, depending on your needs.

    Inspire

If you set a good example and are seen as someone sincere and who works hard, they will follow suit. Lead from the front and inspire them to be more responsible, and proactive. Let them know what you expect of them.
