After a quick name change and some nips and tucks, Samsung Galaxy R has been made official and will be coming to India very soon.
The phone is said to be the cheaper version of the Samsung Galaxy S II and the company will start rolling out the phone in various countries, beginning with Sweden, North and Eastern Europe, China, South East, Middle East and West Asia.
The price for India is hitherto unknown, but it is expected to be priced around Rs. 25,000, and is just below the Galaxy S II and at par with the LG Optimus 2X. Most tech-watchers think the Galaxy R will destroy the standing of Optimus 2X once it arrives in the market.
The phone is a scaled-down version of the S II and the only changes include a Tegra 2 CPU, a smaller screen size, different panel and lower inbuilt memory and RAM.
However, just so that the Galaxy R does not erode the S II sales, the video recording capabilities have been limited to 720p. The super AMOLED Plus screen has been replaced with SuperClear LCD, in order to slash the price. The phone will be equipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and will feature Samsung's TouchWiz UI.
Samsung is already giving nightmares to Nokia in the smartphones segment. With the Galaxy R hitting the Indian markets, things are only expected to get tougher for Nokia while the competition in the smartphones segment is bound to get hotter. And to be honest, this is also sure to give jitters to the mighty Apple.
